Our state does best with weekend events. We had 100k protesters on 4/5, but have had local conflicts with going big on 4/19 and 6/14. We would really like the opportunity to align with a national date on a weekend. I agree with those who say July 4th weekend will be hard to draw a crowd – and it could be bad optics (are we protesting the birth of our nation?). I’d prefer any other weekend in July or August.

  • Our group, Mass 50501, will likely have actions on 6/6 and 6/14. We have already been planning a 6/6 D-Day event that is led by our Veteran members. We are hoping this will be a large-scale event despite it being a Friday.

June 14th is Boston Pride. It is an enormous event in our city. We would not be able to do a secondary protest in Boston. Since many of our members are LGBTQIA+, we have already signed up as a supporting organization and are sending a marching group. We are encouraging all local orgs who are are in coalition with to sign up to march and to send their membership bases to the Pride festivities. Having a giant joyful party for one of the marginalized groups this administration is trying to erase feels like the perfect act of resistance while Trump throws his North Korean-style birthday bash.

I vote for both dates but if 6/14 wins, I would love to see some other states use this as an opportunity to lift up their LGBTQIA+ communities!
